What is an RPC Project - and why are they necessary?
An RPC Project starts as a simple online form in which a DAAP faculty member defines an educational goal that is to include services provided by the Rapid Prototyping Center (RPC). This definition of the project intent allows the RPC Administration (Scott Lincoln and Aaron Rucker) to provide appropriate information, training materials and scheduling to support the Project, which is then approved and activated.
The RPC Project becomes a vehicle to which students may submit requests for RPC services. The Faculty sponsor may track the progress of all student requests that have been made to the Project and may also collect accrued information at the completion of the Project life-cycle.
The RPC Project function has been developed to address the growing need for a co-operative effort to manage our considerable, but ultimately limited, resources in the RPC. The mission of the RPC is to maximize the educational value of these resources for the DAAP community. Toward that end, the involvement of the faculty in defining the potential for such educational value becomes absolutely essential.
All requests from DAAP students for RPC services are now required to be submitted to an RPC Project.
The RPC Administration is willing to assist faculty members with any functions in creating or fine-tuning RPC Projects that may not be directly possible using the online form. They, Scott Lincoln and Aaron Rucker, will attempt to match RPC resources to support the educational goals of DAAP faculty and students. The function of an RPC Project is to help coordinate our collective effort toward these goals.
