3D Printer Overview

Importing a CAD file into the Z-Print software (software is installed on all CGC PC's, but not Mac's)

  • Open the Zprint software from the folder on the desktop marked "Applications"
  • Choose your first file (.STL, .WRL or .3DS) to open.

  • If the EZ Print box is checked, please uncheck it
  • The software will prompt you to select the units the model was created in. Warning: even if, for example, you were working in inches in SolidWorks, it may have exported your .STL in MM.

  • If the part is too big to fit in the machine, the Z-Print will prompt you to rescale it.

Note: Recheck the size of the model once you have imported the file. The grid in the Z-Print software is in inches with all one inch squares.

  • If the model has inverted normals, Z-Print will prompt you to correct their orientation. Click the "Yes" tab.

Note: If there are still a mixture of white and dark grey facets (non-agreeing normals) you may need to revisit your construction in the originating CAD software to correct the normals and import the file into Z-Print again.

  • Select your printer of choice: Click on File, 3D print setup - the Z310 is our smaller, more economical printer; the Z510 is the larger one - make your selection here.
  • To add more objects to your build collection, select File, Import
  • When you have imported your parts, save the file. This is the file that you will need to upload as part of your request in the "online submission system" to get 3D printed.
