My name is Ashley Walton, I'm a Digital Design student at the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP). I'm also majoring in Brain and Mind Studies, I'm interested in how a better understanding of emotions and cognition can help designers communicate more effectively.

Client: CERHAS
A preservation group called CERHAS received grant money to develop educational tools to help tourists get the most out of their visit to the Ancient Ohio Valley. The class objective was to design a game prototype for the iPhone that engaged the user with a particular historical location on the Ancient Ohio Trail. Our group's assigned location was Mariemont. The most signficant role I had in creating this prototype was research and development - creating game components that best engaged the user with the historical content.
Our prototype was selected by CERHAS to be put into development and is currently undergoing usability testing. Professor Ben Meyer recently presented our project at a conference for educational game development in Austria.

Client: Contemporary Arts Center of Cincinnati
The first two images document the installation of the Tara Donovan exhibition.
The following set of images document the one-day CAC exhibition "It is What it Is: Conversations about Iraq" where artist Jeremy Deller traveled the country in an RV towing the remains of a car destroyed by a bomb in the Baghdad market. He parked the RV and the remains of the car next to Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati. As a Communications intern at the CAC I was able to work on a variety of projects. The first piece is a promotional card for an event called Contemporary Friday:Spin, the second is a cover card for admission passes to the museum. Both incorporate photography of the CAC's exhibition at the time, Tara Donovan's sculptures.

Client: TiER1 Performance
This project was initiated by TiER1 as the branding for the company's year-long team building competition. They wanted to encourage employees to improve performance by pushing themselves out of their comfort zones as they headed into the new fiscal quarter. My job was to create a logo and overall visual direction that communicated this purpose as well the company's personality and culture. Direct and to the point, "Push" in a hand-written style emulates the friendly and unique culture of TiER1, while communicating the flexibility encouraged by the program.

Client: TiER1 Performance
Part of the "Push" branding was to create the print content for TiER1's annual "Amazing Race". Employees were split into teams and given clue cards that led them to different locations around the city. These pieces demonstrate the hand-drawn element of the logo incorporated with my photography and the branding guidlines of the company.

This was a game prototype I made using audio clips from my sister's surf rock band. Each riff is hooked up to a key as well as an animation. The animation leaves shapes on the screen, allowing the user to "compose" a surf rock song as well as a picture.

Client: Ben Meyer
The objective was to choose a quote and communicate the tone, intonation, and nature of the vocals using typography and motion.
I chose a quote from the end of the movie "There Will Be Blood".
I used color, repetition and contrast to portray the violent turn of the conversation and the aggressive rage in the speaker's voice.

We organized an art's fair that featured local zines, publications and printing companies in Cincinnati. We titled it "Life is Fair" - this photo was used on the signs and posters that promoted the event.

This exercise required a successful composition of a 3d render utilizing different materials and simple shading networks. This image of a set of reflective glasses was completed using HDR light maps obtained by using a digital camera to photograph a reflective orb within the lighting environment of the still life. Please click to view entire composition.
The second image is the reproduction of a simple square object with a projected package label completed in Cinema 4D.
